Barack Obama, the new President of USA

everybody knew the news..a great news not only to the Americans, but as well as to the people from all around the world…

Barack Obama, who won the presidential election in 4th November 2008, representing Democrats, defeating Republican’s McCain…by a simple majority…becoming the first African-American President of the superpower United States of America…

Barack Obama really had many great and challenging tasks ahead, which are inevitable…facing the worst economic crisis of the country as well as the whole affected world, stabilizing the country, forming peace with other countries, etc…

He took over the post from George W. Bush, who leaves Washington as one of the nation’s most unpopular and divisive president,,under his presidential lead, September 11 attack, Iraq war, slow response to Hurricane Katrina, and economic meltdown occurs..

Now, it is a great responsibility ahead for Obama to solve all these, so that he can gain the trust of every people on Earth…He is now 47 years old, graduated from Columbia University (political science) and Harvard University (Law)… wins 53% votes from Americans to become the 44th president of the nation..

Finally on 20th January 2009, he officially takes office as the president..guarded by so many Secret Service agents, applaused by hundred of thousands people attended the inauguration ceremony..all the people went to National Mall, watching the ceremony at United States Capitol Building…

Barack Hussein Obama, then sweared in, accompanied by his wife,Michelle and daughters, Sasha and Malia…George W. Bush is now out of office and it is now in the hand of Obama to ‘Change” America and the world!

Hopes that he will improve the nation’s relationship with my country, Malaysia…but i got from news that he really got little relationship with Malaysia in his family background which had a lot of mix like Kenya, Africa, etc…His charisma is really good..and his outlook is cool…

Battleground (Season 2) Ended!

just now, just watched the Season 2 Battleground Final aired on Astro Wah Lai Toi live from 7pm to 9pm…it is held at Euphoria Club…

very exciting..three finalists, Twister Genies. Ultimaxx and ECX performed very well and improved a lot in the final…

after two rounds, Ultimaxx is eliminated and became the second runer-up..not bad oso lah..they did it quite well too, but lack of little bit excitement and emotion…

then, it is really the final battle between the two remaining group..each group got five people..one male and another group female…

still thinks that ECX is the best of the night, not only tonight, but everytime the competition is held..the group always get the first rank in each competition day until the final today..and..bingo…they won it again…they got the champion!

They really do very and extremely well today..perfect with no mistake at all…their dance is really interesting and energetic..synchronization is perfect…Twister Genies oso not bad..getting the first runner-up..they improved a lot…

need to wait for another year for the Battleground Season 3…this time battleground is better than the previous one…really ‘geng’!

Top Eight Best New Year 2009 Countdown Fireworks

this is my first post in year 2009 after all…haha..yesterday all the countdown went smoothly, all the fireworks went successfully….

i have seen almost all the fireworks around the world for 2009 new year countdown celebration, overall, all are pretty awesome! after i have seen all the videos from youtube, here is my rankings:

1.uum..the champion goes to Singapore, the Marina Bay fireworks…beautiful, especially on this island of Singapore..a beautiful city with great skyline..beautiful synchronisation too..with the background music and the styles of fireworks..thumbs up for this great show too! the most exciting and heart-beating part is the finale of the fireworks…cover the whole sky with excitement from the inspired crowd! i can absolutely feel the spirit of new year through Singapore fireworks shown in the video below!

2. Sydney, Australia – the place is so beautiful with Sydney Opera House, the city, Victoria Harbour and the Victoria Harobur Bridge..even without the awesome fireworks, the place really fantastic! The styles and synchronisation of fireworks here are great! This  fireworks show made me inspired! When i am watching the video below, i was like, OMG!

see the picture is already great, right..now see the video!

3nd: London, England – the place is totally beautiful with its historical Big Ben and the modern looking London Eye..the fireworks enhance the view there ..pretty amazing show! with synchronisation on the London Eye designed by fireworks experts..the styles are awesome too!

4rd: Hong Kong, China – Hong Kong skyline is the best in the world, all the buidings especially the tall ones are beautifully decorated with lights, the night was added with colourful fireworks..what more you can say while enjoying the fireworks and the background scene of the city! Eventhough with less styles and types of fireworks, but the synchronisation here is great!

5th: uum..should goes to Space Needle at Seattle, USA…the styles of fireworks based on the tower is marvelous..quite a long period of time…a lot of colours are portrayed in the fireworks display here too…i love it when fireworks explode out from the top of the tower..some move straight towards the sky, some move around the tower.

6th: Should goes to Taipei 101, the current world tallest building in the world, there is a six hours long countdown concert held besides the tower that attracted over 700 000 people, the fireworks here are meaningful (gold colour symbolizes prosperity, red symbolises chinese auspicious colour, green symbolizes earth and nature), synchronisation is not bad too! only 388 seconds long.

7th:  should goes to Auckland, New Zealand where the fireworks explode from the SkyTower, similar to the Space Needle, but this one only on the upper part of the tower, the scale is not as good as Space Needle, so put it in this ranking..quite creative as fireworks of different styles explode out of the tower.

8th: uum..should goes to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia …mainly on Kuala lumpur City Centre(KLCC) where the Petronas Twin Towers (current world tallest twin buildings) stand…nice fireworks…and also in other part of the city, like on the left side, we have fireworks at Independence Square, middle of the city at Golden Triangle (fireworks at Sungei Wang Plaza) and on the right side, the KLCC. the video shown below is at KLCC only..

There are actually many other places all around the world that have great fireworks during new year 2009 celebration..like Lithuania, Edinburgh, Moscow, Rio de Janeiro, Munich, Berlin, Vilnius, New York, etc..i have not seen them..so, pretty hard to judge actually..but the ranking posted up here is up to my thoughts only..don’t forget, everyone had different thoughts

after u have viewed all the videos above, u might have the same thoughts with me..all are great..anywhere around the world are great! If u disagree with the list here or you wanna add more to it, feel free to comment on it..

actually there are few criterias in creating this ranking:

1 – the styles and types of fireworks.

2 – synchronisation of fireworks.

3 – addition of lights, musics, etc.

4 – background scene (skyline, harbour, building, landmark ,etc)

5 – the scale of fireworks.

6 – the length of time of fireworks.

7 – the excitement from crowd.

8 – the meanings and symbolism of fireworks (theme). (very hard to know, based on the fireworks organizers’ theme)

Anyway, Happy New Year 2009 to all again ! All the videos here, must see…these are very great videos obtained from Youtube. Especially for those who love fireworks!

Beijing National Stadium

commonly known as Bird Nest stadium or Beijing Olympic Stadium…this stadium is a real engineering marvel for us…great architecture here too…

14jylag

 – located in Olympic Green, Beijing, China (on a straight axis along with the Forbidden City and Tiannanmen Square). (refer to Google Earth and check it yourself)

– Designed and built basically for the beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games and for future athletics sports or other events.

20080724194605748

– Costs US$423 million, world largest steel construction.

11

– Designed by a Swiss architecture firm, Herxog and de Meuron in April 2003.

– Originated from the Chinese ceramics, implemented steel beams in order to hide supports for the retractable roof for the appearance of bird nest.

24d0ae10-19bb-316e-40e8da9daaa18282

– later the design of retractable roof is removed after considering some recognizable aspect and to reduce budget.

– Ground breaking ceremony on 24rd December 2003.

– Official opening of the stadium on 28th June 2008.

– On 14th May 2008, the grass filed of 7811 square metres was laid in 24 hours.

– Was a joint venture among architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron, project architect Stefan Marbach, artist Ai Weiwei, and CADG which was lead by chief architect, Li Xinggang from China.

– The basic design principles are being porous, collective building, a public vessel and a nest scheme.

– consists of two independent structures, standing 50 feet apart; a red concrete seating bowl and the outer steel frame around it.

beijing-national-stadium-in-3d-catia

–  24 trussed columns encase the inner bowl, each one weighing 1000 tonnes.

– Original seats capacity designed: 100 000.

– After removal of roof and simplification of design, the seats capacity becomes 91 000 for olympic.

– After the olympic, the seats is now reduced to 80 000.

– it is the world 21st largest stadium in terms of seats capacity (91 000)

– the farthest seat is 140 metres from the center field.

– temperature and air flow of every surface were optimized to increase ventilation.

– removal of retractable roof after incident of collapse of roof at Charles de Gaulle International Airport reduced the construction budget to US290 million from US$500 million.

– the structure is now lightened, which helped it to stand up to seismic activity.

herzog_n_de_meuron__7506ad2

-construction: 17 000 workers.

– 110 000 tonnes of steel made in China was used.

– considered as the most important public space in Beijing.

0013729e44e109e8dd5509

– hosted the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games (opeing and closing ceremonies) as well as atheltics sports and football.

OLYMPICS/OPENING

– famous quote by the chief architect of CADG, Li Xinggang:

” Why does a Chinese bowl or a Chinese window have this kind of pattern? Maybe the Chinese people like things to appear in this irregular way, but underneath there are very clear rules. The Bird’s Nest developed in this way”

huh..quite a lot of info regarding this stadium..i love this stadium..and i will be going to Beijing next Chinese New Year to see it myself…yeah! can’t wait for that day to come!

26th of December..christmas is over..

time passes so fast..the long awaiting christmas is over..and now we are all waiting for new year countdown celebration…

today is 26th of December in year 2008, a normal day (a Boxing Day actually)…but when we looked back to the same date in 4 years ago, year 2004, something terrifying the Earth had happened

i think everyone knew what i am trying to say…and yes…the Indian Ocean Earthquake and Tsunami,,,

the day after all the christmas celebration along the beach comes to a sudden miserable day when gigantic waves strike…everything just went into rubbles in the waves’ direction….

the tsunami took over 225,000 lives and affected fifteen countries, Indonesia(worst hit), Sri Lanka(worst hit), India(worst hit), Thailand(worst hit), Somalia, Myanmar, Maldives, Malaysia, Tanzania, Seychelles, Bangladesh, South Africa, Yemen, Kenya and even Madagascar.

it is the second largest earthquake ever recorded by a seismograph with a magnitude between 9.1 to 9.3

This earthquake had the longest duration of faulting ever observed, between 8.3 and 10 minutes. It caused the entire planet to vibrate as much as 1 cm (0.5 inches) and triggered other earthquakes as far away as Alaska.

may god still bless those who have lost their lives under this unpredictable and disastrous tragedy…take this day as a remembrance day…

recalling 2008..welcoming 2009

year 2008 is almost over..time really passes so fast..so quick..that memories still laid on those events happened over the year..let us recall back…

in this year, we have seen the greatest natural disaster after the boxing day tsunami few years ago…not only one..but two disasters on two different locations under the same continent, Asia…

all these happened in May, when on 3rd of May, we have seen the Cyclone Nargis killing over 133,000 people in Myanmar. On May 12, we have seen the 8.0 magnitude earthquake at Sichuan, China that killed over 87 000 people.

of course we have seen other natural disasters oso like Typhoon Hagupit, slight earthquake, blah..blah..blah…we do have man-made disasters too..mainly suicide-bombing, terrorist attack in Mumbai, train crash, riots, recent pirates hijacking at Somalia coast….

29mumbai_600a1

                                                      Terrorist attack at Mumbai, India.

in 2008, we have also seen some important political matters..presidential election of United States of America marking the first African-American president by next year, Barack Obama, political crisis at Thailand that shows resignation from three prime ministers due to violent demonstration especially at the two main international airports at Bangkok, as well as the uprising opposition parties in Malaysia showing the ruling coalition with slight majority win on 8th of March but losses of five states to the opposition…

we have also seen some of the good news  and events throughout the year..

The Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games is successfully held from 8th to 24th of August..the grandest sporting games of the world…with the most-watched opening and closing ceremonies as well.

OLYMPICS/OPENING

This year we have also seen as well as experience the Global Financial and Economic Crisis that struck United States before spreading towards the whole world, mainly Asia too…many people losing their money, some even declared bankcrupcy, some suicide, some borrow “shark loan”…haiz…in Malaysia, we experienced increasing food and fuel prices too..eventhough government lowered the fuel price ten cent by ten cent, it is still very high!! burdening…want to eat oso need to think..expensive?affordable?haiz..

global_financial_crisis

in year 2008 we have oso seen something funny..but quite serious indeed..the current President of USA, George Bush is being attacked by shoes at the recent meeting at Iran in December, luckily he was not being hit..Iran people appreciated the brave journalist who threw shoes towards the most hated person in their lives and declared the day as the Throw Shoes Day! Haha…

latest construction update on Burj Dubai

huh..i really admire this building..i think everyone knows about this building currently under construction and almost nearing completion at Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

the height of the building now is expected to be about 770m tall according to www.burjdubaiskyscraper.com .

the building is expected to reach over 800m ( around 818m) when completed…becoming not only the world tallest building, world tallest free-standing structure but as well as the tallest man-made structure on Earth (officially given when completed).

the white spire is seen began to jack off to a certain height..and the window panelling is almost completed to higher floors..just can’t wait for the building to be completed and officially opened!…that time sure got fireworks to see again…from a huge tower like this…
