Ice bucket challenge everywhere!

What’s more trendy now than the superbly popular Ice Bucket Challenge? If you didn’t know about this thing, then I guess you must be someone fully disconnected to the outside world. Also known as ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, it is an activity involving dumping a bucket of ice water on someone’s head to promote awareness of the disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and encourage donations to research. The challenge dares nominated participants to be filmed having a bucket of ice water poured on their heads and challenging others to do the same. A common stipulation is that nominated people have 24 hours to comply or forfeit by way of a charitable financial donation.

The challenge went viral through social media and had since became a pop culture phenomenon from mid-2014. Many celebrities, athletes, entrepreneurs and even politicians across the world participated into the event. They include Ben Affleck, Jessica Alba, Jack Black, Tom Cruise, Leonardo di Caprio, Vin Diesel, Robert Downey Jr., James Franco, Tom Hiddleston, Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Steven Spielberg, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, etc.  A lot more. Asian celebrities whom also took part were Andy Lau, Jay Chou, Nicholas Tse, Joey Yung, Nick Cheung, etc.

Recently, I see countless of Facebook posts sharing how the celebrities or even some of my Facebook friends performing the challenge themselves after being nominated. The objective to create awareness for the ALS disease is good. It is for good cause. However, I find that the way of doing it isn’t quite right. For me, it is a waste of water. Furthermore, if you are genuinely helpful to donate to a charity, you don’t need to tell everyone that you are doing so. And I believe some of the participants only took up the challenge just for fun, and also to show to everyone that they are ‘updated’ to the trend, without donating anything to the ALS Foundation. That’s just not right. And I guess many didn’t even know what ALS is.

Due to its unbelievable popularity across the world now, the Ice Bucket Challenge also received a lot of criticisms with some celebrities informing that they will not perform the act eventhough they had been nominated by others. The reasons; similar to what I have said just now. Besides that, there is a source claiming that most of the donations given to ALS Foundation didn’t go directly for research or other much needed categories that require more attention and funding. Instead, most of the money goes to somewhere else or even for somebody’s pockets. There is still no truth to this claim but yea…you can actually donate to many other charitable foundations too…to the one you trust the most, and not necessarily the one that got the most attention now. Like me…I would not do this Ice Bucket Challenge, but I would still donate to charity.

It’s very hot out there! No rain, haze returns…

Beginning from last week when month of May began, the weather in Kuala Lumpur and major parts of Malaysia had started to gone terribly wrong with high temperature of even 37 degree celsius is recorded. That is our human body temperature which is very warm, and is not supposed to be the air temperature in Malaysia for these current days.

There have been already many people complaining on the extremely hot and unusual weather through conversations and even on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. It is not only me that feels such weather is unusual, but also all the other people. It is even reported on the news. It’s a very hot month, and I can’t remember when is the last time it is raining here in KL….

This place seriously needs heavy downpour to cool down the air. I remembered I saw a weather statistic, stating that the usual humidity in Malaysia of over 70 percent has dropped to around 40 percent. It is not only hot, but it’s also arid or dry…very dry….until you will feel breathless if you stay outdoor for a long time. The God has treated the weather here like in a desert. Is it a sign of the coming judgement day, some predicted to be as early as on 21st of this month, or even a year later in December 21st, 2012?

I do not believe much on these dates, but I have to believe that the world’s condition is getting better in human’s development and economic growth, but turning much worse in environment. There is no rain in KL these few days, and it is very abnormal for weather in Malaysia, a tropical country often visited by tropical rain. And beginning today, haze is coming back to Malaysia due to forest fire in Indonesia, our neighbouring country as well as several hotspots detected even in jungles in Malaysia itself. This haze even worsen the environment here, and without air-conditioning nowadays, people would suffer from free sauna outdoor anywhere…haha…Uhh…weather of such intensity of heat gives discomfort and even headache to people…I’m loving my air-cond badly now…

My blog’s second tribute to MJ…

It’s been almost two weeks after he passed away suddenly due to cardiac arrest, the topic of his death is still as hot as boiling water, never cooling down.

More autopsy needed to be done to find the real hidden cause of his death more than the heart failure only. His upcoming memorial service will attract thousand of people.

I can still remember, on the day of his death, the topic turns to be the main news of the day, taking on few cover pages of each different newspapers. The topic is also found on the entertainment section as the main news too. This take up for few days, for a week. Until a week after his death, the topic is still apeearing on entertainment section. How famous he is!? No one in this world will not recognize him….even my over 80 years old grandma knew him…

Some TV channels have started to broadcast special events to commemorate his death, like previous concerts of him in 1980s and 1990s, documentary of him, his popularity and his life, and many more….

Recently, I have just found out a nice song from him. I have heard it before around ten years back when I was a child, always listening to his songs, watching him dancing…. The song is You Are Not Alone, probably the most romantic song he sang, love this song….

I love him dancing, his dance is awesome, the most famous one is moonwalk and bending 45 degree, actually many more….he is born to be the king of pop, and honestly, died to be the music legend and historical icon…
