86th Academy Awards Nominations

The official list of nominations for the upcoming 86th Academy Awards had been announced. The awards presentation will be held on March 2, 2014 at the usual place; Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. During the ceremony, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present the awards commonly known as Oscars in 24 categories. Ellen DeGeneres will be hosting the show (her second time).

What a long list. ‘Gravity’ and ‘American Hustle’ led the pack with 10 nominations each, while hot favourite for ‘Best Picture’, ’12 Years A Slave’ came with 9 nominations. ‘Captain Phillips’ earned 6 nominations too, but surprisingly not included in ‘Best Leading Actor’ category for Tom Hanks and ‘Best Director’ category while Barkhad Adi successfully earned a spot in ‘Best Supporting Actor’ category. ‘Nebraska’ and ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ also earned 6 nominations respectively. ‘Her’ and ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ had 5 nominations each. And one surprise from this list is that ‘The Grandmaster’ (a Hong Kong film) had two nominations (in Best Cinematography and Best Costume Design), but not nominated in Best Foreign Language Film.
