As of 6th December 2020, I have watched a total of 121 films. I have not only successfully passed the 100-mark, I also crossed the 120-mark. Even if only Hollywood films are counted, I have breached the 100-mark too. I must say that is impressive!

You will notice that for this year, 3 out of my top 10 films of the year are actually foreign language films. It means that these films are getting better and more international attention nowadays. South Korea’s ‘Parasite’ is my pick for best movie of the year. Hands down. With 99% Rotten Tomatoes score, 96% Metacritic score and 8.6/10 IMDB score, this movie is now gaining a lot of awards buzz and it certainly deserves the recognition it won. The movie is wildly entertaining and surprisingly engaging with perfect mixture of multiple genres into one single film, excellent performance and chemistry by all the cast, superb perspective on social themes, and beautiful crafts.

Now, here is the top 10 highest grossing films of 2019 (information accurate as of 6th December 2020):

  1. Avengers: Endgame ($2.797 billion)
  2. The Lion King ($1.656 billion)
  3. Frozen 2 ($1.450 billion)
  4. Spider-Man: Far From Home ($1.131 billion)
  5. Captain Marvel ($1.128 billion)
  6. Joker ($1.074 billion)
  7. Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker ($1.074 million)
  8. Toy Story 4 ($1.073 million)
  9. Aladdin ($1.050 billion)
  10. Jumanji: The Next Level ($800 million)

A total of 9 films this year joined the billion-dollar club. This makes 2019 the year with most number of billion-dollar films at 9. The previous record is 5 films in 2015 and 2018. ‘Avengers: Endgame’ ultimately becomes the world’s highest grossing film of all time as its box office intake has exceeded previous record holder, ‘Avatar’ by around $10 million. Superhero films are still doing very well (no superhero fatigue yet) while Disney remakes seems to be very popular recently.

  1. Wow I thought I saw a lot of movies but it’s nothing compared to you Vincent! I totally agree with you about Aladdin for best costume, the clothes were amazing. Today I’m going to see Frozen 2 with my goddaughter. Apparently it was so popular here (Finland) that the main movie theatre’s website crashed. Personally I don’t believe that was the problem. Instead I believe they didn’t have anyone on call to monitor the website because of the Christmas holidays and when it crashed they were caught unawares. I have never before had to queue online to get onto a website, it was the funniest thing (I had to queue 10 minutes before the website loaded).
