Finally, Malaysia’s parliament dissolved today

After months of speculating when the Malaysia’s Prime Minister would calls for the general election, the answer finally came. Today’s morning saw the presence of many journalists and reporters in front of National Palace to catch up with latest announcements from the Prime Minister after he seeks audience with the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong. Many of them somehow received ‘inside’ news that there are going to something ‘big’ today. And yes, it’s right. Today is not only about the fourth anniversary of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak becoming the prime minister of Malaysia (no one cares about that), but also of something else that the people are very much excited for.

In 11.30am this morning, Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak announced live to the media through national channels that the Parliament effectively dissolved today after obtaining consent from the King. This means that the 13th general election would be most probably by end of this month with prediction that it would be held in April 27 on Saturday. No more waiting. The election is on. The heat is here. Today, the prime minister made the long-awaited announcement which leads to dissolution of all state assemblies too (except Negeri Sembilan which had automatically dissolved its assembly last month after its five-year term fully expired). The Election Commission will meet in a few days to decide and announce the polling date. So, the exact date for the election is still not confirmed yet. Be patient and wait for few more days.

Then, when I checked through my Facebook home page today, many of my FB friends commented on this topic which is now the main issue to be debated today. ‘Finally he is willing to let go.’ is one of the status my FB friend posted that made my day. I believe from now on, many banners and flags of respective political parties would be placed all over the places. It would be a mess everywhere as expected. I began to see some now, where Barisan National (the ruling coalition) started first. But it’s kind of fun to see so many flags and banners flying wherever you are going that certainly adds up to the atmosphere. Then, when I checked on SPR whether my registration as voter has been confirmed and processed or not, the outcome turned out to be negative. I’m not in the voters’ list. I had registered in early January, but then the electoral roll had closed off the new application by December last year. I’m a bit late. And so I have to wait for the 14th general election. By then, I would be 26 years old already.

Yea…yea…yea. Time for change. I have mentioned it a lot of time. The current ruling coalition had been given 56 years of mandate to govern the country. Yes, the country observed steady economic progress (but not as good as many others) but with corruption and ‘dark’ political plays behind plus with inefficiency of the government, there has to be a ‘stop’ for all that. It’s seriously the time to at least give the opposition a chance, for a term of five years to try, for a fresh new change to the country. If the opposition can’t perform also, then we will bring them down too. Let Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim take the lead for the first time. The people decide and all people is encouraged to wake up and see clearly and choose wisely. The election is on. And let’s vote for better Malaysia.
