Today marks the 9th anniversary of my blog!

Posted in Explosive News and Results with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on September 28, 2017 by vincentloy

My blog is celebrating its 9th birthday today! It is now 9 years old. Wonderful!

28th September 2008 was the day I first created my blog here under WordPress platform and I wrote my first ever post in a very informal and brief delivery. Now, I have over 1900 posts containing multiple informative articles, critical news and analysis, content reviews, or just a personal diary of what I have been going through from time to time. At first, I didn’t expect that my passion in blogging would come to this far, and not to mention that I have produced over 1900 posts to date. I have to be very excited and proud of myself for that!

Actually, in these few months, I do have a lot more in my mind to write in my blog here. However, I don’t have the time for it as I’m currently being overwhelmed with my thesis work. I promised that I will get back to my blog here actively right after I finish my thesis. And that would be end of this November. Two more months to go and I’m free to return to my hobbies (blogging included).

One more year to go and my blog will be reaching the one decade anniversary’s milestone. And for now, Happy 9th birthday to my blog again and wishing for me and my blog to have another awesome 9 years ahead!

Happy 8th Anniversary to the blog!

My blog here has just recently reached some great milestones; gained over 3 million views, attracted over 220 followers and produced over 1800 posts. And today is the day to top it off as the blog is celebrating its 8th birthday today!

It has been a wonderful 8 years since I created this blog. I believe I have been writing a lot of cool stuff as well as some nonsense ones in the past 8 years (and more to come). Well, this is my blog…I have whatever freedom I have to type anything I like as long as it did not violate, insult or breach any rules or parties. This is a great online platform for me to share and express my thoughts and feelings on certain issues I’m interested or involved in. This site is accessible to everyone across the world, unless you have no internet connection. So, you are welcomed to visit my blog here any time or any where you want. Your support and visit to my site is what inspired me to continue updating my blog here.

When I first started this blog, I never thought of coming to this far. For your information, before the birth of this blog, I have had actually created another blog earlier but I have dumped it off and focus on this one instead. Now I couldn’t even remember where my previous blog (that is my first ever attempt on blogging) is located at. But I think since it has been inactive for so many years (10 years or something), I guess it would have been automatically removed and I have no issue with that. From 2008 onward, this site is the only blog I’m attached to…and then time flies, and 8 years have gone. And I’m still here, constantly updating my blog.

Actually in my mind, I have some ideas to expand and roll out new features and improvements for this blog. I also have plan to upgrade my blog’s media storage capacity, purchase and set the blog’s web address to my own domain. I guess these are going to be done in stages soon, to give fresh new appearance to my blog that has been around with the same face and style for the past 8 years.

Alright. That’s it for my post today, created to mark this very special day for my blog here that is now 8 years old.

Finished The Amazing Race 27…and the other much bigger news; this is my 1700th blog post!

Posted in Explosive News and Results with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on December 13, 2015 by vincentloy

First of all, a huge announcement need to be made first; My blog had reached another milestone on this day, by having a total of 1700 blog posts to date. This blog post is exactly the 1700th of this blog. Wonderful! Target achieved before the end of the year of which I have set or forecast earlier. What a great news…my Sunday couldn’t be more happier in marking this accomplishment.

n1700

Producing 100 blog posts is already a no-easy task, and now I have went so far beyond, and reached 1700 today. I believe not many bloggers out there can have that much of posts in less than 8 years. So far, in this year alone, I have written over 200 blog posts which obviously shows that my blog is very active and frequently updated, and that I’m very hardworking and passionate about blogging. Haha…taking this opportunity to praise myself.

Well, on this Sunday too is the day I finished watching ‘The Amazing Race Season 27’ after gone through its exciting final episode (12th episode) just now. If you didn’t know, I have been catching up with this US television programme for many seasons already (about several teams of 2 person each racing around the world and performing tasks to avoid getting eliminated in each episode) and this latest one is not excluded. I’m happy that my favourite pair, Kelsey and Joey won the race as well as the awesome US 1 million dollar prize. From the beginning, I have been in favour of this pair as they are kind, good, seldom quarrel and always performed tasks in very efficient way. However, in the earlier stages, they always ended up being in the second place. Fortunately, luck is on their side at the most crucial last leg and they won the race after having gone through 5 continents and 10 countries with the other two finalist teams.

The other two teams which succeeded into the final leg are Justin and Diana and Chris and Logan. Justin and Diana had been conquering the earlier legs (winning many of them) but cab issue had cost them the final leg. They are really one strong team to beat as seen in their dominating leads in earlier rounds. However, I find the attitude of Justin to be quite bad and he is always being cocky. I’m okay with them ended up in first runner-up in the end. Chris and Logan are famous for frequent quarrel and they surprisingly made it into the final 3. It’s the best that they can do already. Now, another season has ended and I have to wait for the next one. The season 28 should be on early next year.

I am also quite excited today because the TVB Anniversary Awards 2015 is going to be held tonight. Too bad, I couldn’t watch it live because I have a full-moon dinner to attend tonight as my cousin’s newborn baby would be celebrating 1-month (full moon) today. Nevertheless, I would still catch up to the results as soon as possible and will write a blog post about it later on. And on the other hand, in about less than a week later, I have another dinner to attend and this time it is my cousin’s wedding dinner. That’s it for my 1700th blog post on this lovely Sunday.

‘Minions’, another movie this year that crossed 1 billion mark.

Posted in Explosive News and Results with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 30, 2015 by vincentloy

Congratulations to ‘Minions’ for having gained over USD$ 1 billion in box office grossing worldwide recently, just before the end of the month. This animated movie, which is the prequel to the two ‘Despicable Me’ films earlier focused on three little minions who went on a journey to find a great villain named Scarlett Overkill to be their master before they eventually settled with Gru. I did watched this movie a while ago, and my review for it is at this link: https://vincentloy.wordpress.com/2015/06/20/two-animated-movies-this-week-the-book-of-life-2014-and-minions-2015/.

minions_summer_2015_hd_wallpaper

I have that particular post as a movie review for ‘The Book of Life’ too, another animated film last year which I find slightly better to watch than this ‘Minions’. ‘Minions’ is still an entertaining film but these little minions alone couldn’t carry the movie on their own. Nevertheless, the movie do performed successfully in the box office worldwide since it is now only the third animated film in history to break over 1 billion milestone. I didn’t expect that to happen, as earlier I predicted that it will only ends up taking about USD$ 900 million the most. But now, these little yellow adorable creatures do win the hearts of both adults and the kids across the world.

minions-5

‘Minions’ now gained more than the two ‘Despicable Me’ films respectively. The first ‘Despicable Me’ gained USD$ 543 million while the sequel performed far better with USD$970 million. Now, ‘Minions’ passed them all. From Box Office Mojo, ‘Minions’ now had USD$ 321 million domestic intake and USD$ 682 million international intake for a worldwide total of USD$ 1.003 billion. It is currently the 23rd highest grossing film of all time and the 23rd film to achieved 1 billion mark. Well, it’s box office intake isn’t stopping now as it is still playing in theatres worldwide and has not even been opened in several big markets too like China.

I’m expecting its final grossing would be somewhere in USD$ 1.2 billion. It will certainly drives past ‘Toy Story 3’ (USD$1.063 billion) and may even beats ‘Frozen’ (USD$1.279 billion) to be the highest grossing animated film ever (unadjusted for inflation). ‘Minions’ is now the fourth highest grossing film of the year, behind ‘Jurassic World’ (USD$1.624 billion), ‘Furious 7’ (USD$1.511 billion) and ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ (USD$1.401 billion). The movie studio ‘Universal’ is breaking almost all kind of records this year and there are still few more months yet before 2015 ends. Its movies like ‘Jurassic World’, ‘Furious 7’, ‘Minions’, ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ and some others are making huge profit.

We are entering into the last four months of the year. Big movies this year that are expected to gross over 1 billion respectively are definitely ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, the latest addition to the iconic epic space-opera film franchise, and ‘Spectre’, the latest James Bond movie of which its last film ‘Skyfall’ did amazingly well in the box office too. ‘Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part II’, the concluding film of its franchise may do very well in the box office too and has the possibility to break 1 billion barrier too. Right now, it’s just August and we have had already four films this year achieving that particular milestone with ‘Minions’ as the latest one to do so. The best year for box office so far.

‘Jurassic World’ past 1.5 billion mark, and its sequel is confirmed!

Posted in Explosive News and Results with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 28, 2015 by vincentloy

I still couldn’t get rid of my current frustration and temper for the political tensions escalating right now in the country. If you missed out what I’m talking about now, just check out my previous blog post, written just two hours earlier. Now, let’s change the mood and talk a bit about movie. It’s not another movie review that may have quite dominate my blog in recent years. I would like to apologize if you are not that interested into my not-so-professional movie reviews all over my blog. I just found out that I love to write my opinions on movies of the year that I have watched in recent years. Not a serious movie critic, but just an interest in me that transformed into blog posts uncontrollably. Haha…sorry ya…

I believe most of you have watched ‘Jurassic World’ since its release over a month ago. If you haven’t, then you should go before it is going to be out from cinema soon. Everybody goes for the movie, and even my two very small nephews enjoyed it. It generally received positive reviews (from me too at this link: https://vincentloy.wordpress.com/2015/06/13/movie-review-jurassic-world-2015/) and is a smashing hit in worldwide box office. It successfully revoked the nostalgia in us, reminding us of the first Jurassic Park movie that we watched when we are still very young. The final fight scene in ‘Jurassic World’ is epic too…

‘Jurassic World’ is not only one of the over twenty films managed to score over US$ 1 billion in grossing, but also capable of becoming one of only four movies in the world that accumulated over US$ 1.5 billion in history. That’s just another milestone broke by ‘Jurassic World’, the fourth film of the popular ‘Jurassic Park’ film franchise that has broken many earlier box office records like biggest opening of all-time, fastest to 500 million, fastest to 1 billion, and now fastest to 1.5 billion. I guess it couldn’t go past 2-billion mark. It’s just seems very hard. Anyway, it’s still already a massive success story for ‘Jurassic World’ in both box office and in critics’ opinions.

jurassic_world___t_rex_kingdom_by_tyrannuss555-d8x8qw9

With current box office figure stands at 1.542 billion, the movie now drives past ‘Furious 7’ (1.511 billion) to be the highest grossing film of the year. Up till today, it accumulated USD 624 million in domestic box office and an additional USD 918 million at international market. Terrific figures! ‘Jurassic World’ also triumphs over ‘The Avengers’ (1.519 billion) to become world’s third highest grossing film, only behind James Cameron’s untouchable ‘Avatar’ (2.78 billion) and ‘Titanic’ (2.18 billion). I guess the final box office intake of ‘Jurassic World’ would be well over 1.6 billion as it is still performing well in US and is not even opened yet in Japan.

universal-studios-officially-announces-jurassic-world-sequel-will-hit-theaters-june-2018

Another good news is that the sequel for this highly successful ‘Jurassic World’ is confirmed and will be out by June 22nd, 2018. Main cast, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will be returning. Awesome! Can’t wait for more actions from the dinosaurs (and that two main stars) on the big screen! Now I’m wondering what would be the story in this sequel is about? Remember that the villainous scientist, Dr. Wu managed to get off the troubled island with the dinosaur embryos in ‘Jurassic World’. How can the park’s authority able to restore public confidence on the island’s safety after the tragic event in ‘Jurassic World’? And how about those escaped flying dinosaurs? Wouldn’t they reached mainland already and create further chaos? And lastly, what would they name the sequel as? ‘Jurassic Park’, ‘Jurassic World’ and then? ‘Jurassic Universe’? Haha…Or simply just ‘Jurassic World 2’? Too many questions now…And I want to see more from mosasaur. Can’t wait for two more years!

‘Jurassic World’ into the 1-billion club.

Posted in Explosive News and Results with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on June 22, 2015 by vincentloy

Before ‘Jurassic World’ is released, I’m expecting that the movie will scores big at the worldwide box office. But I didn’t expect it to be this massive! Previously, I was predicting that the movie could ends up earning up to 900 million US dollars, just a little below the first ‘Jurassic Park’ that earned about USD 1.03 billion. Now, the latest (fourth) film in this successful franchise has already crossed over USD 1 billion in its box office intake. The movie is now the 22nd film in history to achieve the milestone. Impressive!

jurassic-world-logo

‘Jurassic World’ had broken many box office records eventhough it is now only out in theatres worldwide for less than 2 weeks (and it is still not opened yet in Japan). The movie had the biggest domestic (US) opening weekend of all time, gaining USD 208.8 million, defeating the previous title holder, ‘The Avengers’ at USD 207.4 million. ‘Jurassic World’ also achieved biggest international opening weekend of all time at USD 315.3 million. That eventually combines for a whopping total of USD 524.1 million for the record-breaking biggest opening weekend overall, taking over the title from ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2’ which stands at USD 483.2 million back in 2011 (the movie finally took in USD 1.34 billion). ‘Jurassic World’ is the first film in history to cross USD 500 million in its opening weekend too. The film gained this massive amount of money mainly due to the people’s love for revival of ‘Jurassic Park’ films, higher movie ticket prices nowadays, shared the same release date with big market like China, increase of IMAX theatres, etc.

jurassic-world-p1-03

There are still many days ahead for the dinosaurs to rampage the theatres, and I’m expecting that this movie would have a final grossing of about USD 1.4 billion. Yesterday’s box office report shows that the movie is already at USD 981 million. Hence, it is inevitable that it will hit USD 1 billion today. And it will be the fastest film in history to reach 1 billion, doing so in only 13 days, defeating previous title holder, ‘Furious 7’ that requires 17 days to pass that barrier. Here’s below is a comparison of how much all the previous ‘Jurassic Park’ movies grossed respectively:

Jurassic Park – USD 1.03 billion.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park – USD 618 million.

Jurassic Park III – USD 368 million.

The first movie is an epic masterpiece by Steven Spielberg. It is one of my most favourite childhood movies and it is irreplaceable. The movie was like a benchmark for a new age to the worldwide films. Unfortunately, the box office figures kept dropping as more sequels were produced. The ratings were also declining for the sequels. There is a concern that ‘Jurassic World’ may not do very well in both. But now, that concern has turned to overwhelming joy for Universal Pictures, the studio behind the movie. It is earning much more than expected and is on its way to break more box office records. Furthermore, the movie had also been received positively eventhough many said it’s still couldn’t match the first film. It’s okay. I very much enjoyed ‘Jurassic World’. It’s a very thrilling dinosaur movie!

You can check out my review for the movie here: https://vincentloy.wordpress.com/2015/06/13/movie-review-jurassic-world-2015/

Congratulations, ‘Jurassic World’! The movie is now the third movie in 2015 to cross the USD 1 billion milestone. ‘Furious 7’ already took USD 1.511 billion to date, while ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ had already gained USD 1.365 billion. This is certainly a big year for box office as we have had already three movies this year joining the prestigious 1-billion club eventhough 2015 is only half way over. Last year, there was only one movie that could do it; ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’ and nothing else. There are some upcoming major films (to be released before end of 2015) that are predicted to cross that mark too like ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ and ‘Spectre’ (latest James Bond movie). Other movies coming up this year that are expected to score big in box office include ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2’, ‘Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation’, ‘Minions’, ‘Ant-Man’, ‘Terminator: Genisys’, etc.

How much do you think ‘Jurassic World’ will earn in final box office intake? No matter what’s the final figure is, the movie is already a worldwide massive hit right now!

The expected and unexpected: ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ passes US$ 1 billion worldwide in grossing.

Posted in Explosive News and Results with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 17, 2015 by vincentloy

‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ is now the 21st film in history to cross the US$ 1 billion mark in worldwide grossing, doing so in its 24th day of global play. I knew it would achieve that milestone easily, but didn’t expect it to accomplish that slower than ‘Fast and Furious 7’ (only took 17 days this year). I thought it has more power and buzz than ‘Furious 7’ to attract moviegoers. Anyway, it is never that easy to join the exclusive 1 billion club, but that accomplishment seems to be quite frequently observed in recent years when there are more moviegoers and that China has opened up its movie market to become among the world’s largest. I also contribute a lot to this movie as I went to cinema twice just for this one movie. The first time I watched it; it was too fast. Had to go for second round to enjoy every details of it.

tumblr_nn8b9qVe8g1qjnwlso1_1280 The domestic intake (in US) for the ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ up until 15th May 2015 is about 343 million dollars, making it the film with the highest domestic intake so far. Its box office intake in all other countries (worldwide) now stands at 657 million dollars. Add the two figures up and you get exactly 1 billion! But its grossing would not just stop there as it is predicted that the movie will continue its momentum in US, and that the movie had just opened for several days in China only. And it is not even opened yet at Japan, another main contributor to worldwide grossing. billion So how much do I expect for the final grossing of this Avengers sequel? I guess somewhere near 1.4 billion, just falls short from the first ‘The Avengers’ film back in 2012 that made 1.518 billion. Slightly lesser amount but still a huge ton of cash for the movie. It performed slightly below the first Avengers in box office, perhaps because of two reasons; this sequel didn’t receive the feedbacks as good as its predecessor, and that some people may just enjoy the hype from the original first film while not being interested in (tired for) its follow-up sequel.

Let’s compare this with ‘Fast and Furious 7’. The latter had earned approximately US$ 1.47 billion worldwide to everyone’s surprise and is now the fourth highest grossing film of all time. Before its release, not many are expecting that it would gain this much in the box office. People keep going for the movie because of its over-the-top and breathtaking stunts, and most importantly, to see Paul Walker in his last film as he died in a car accident in 2013 when the filming was still taking place. Currently, Furious 7 is the highest grossing film of the year and can ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ top that amount? Chance is there but a bit low. Don’t forger that ‘Furious 7’ is still playing in theatres worldwide. It may even catch up to the first Avengers movie by reaching 1.5 billion. furious-7-one-last-ride-121611 So far, this year (not even mid-year yet), and there are already two films that crossed 1 billion milestone. It’s like becoming easier to pass 1 billion to become a historic major blockbuster, while other movies see it as a pressure for themselves getting disappointed by their own box office figure. Watch up for upcoming films by the end of the year that will most probably accomplish the achievement too, particularly ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’.
