November, the month that launches awards season for both East and West.
Opps…I’m one day late of wishing Happy Halloween to those who are celebrating it, particularly to my friends from the West or even people I may not know (I mean you whom may have accidentally stumbled into my blog right now). On last Friday, the eve of the Halloween, while I was waiting for train to go back home after work in late afternoon, I saw a young boy with make-up of a scary clown on his face whom is also waiting for train. Everyone who passed by stared at him while he tried to avoid the attention by just looking down to his phone all the time. Well, I believe we will see this kind of thing frequently during Halloween period in US with nothing to shout out for, but in Malaysia, we seldom see this sort of stuff.
Anyway, we have now entered into the second last month of the year unbelievably. November marks the launch of many awards season, and to my particular interest, the Hollywood film awards season as well as the TVB series awards season. Well, there is also the upcoming Taiwan’s Golden Horse Awards this month but I don’t really pay attention to that this year. While Oscars will not be handed out till February next year, but there are plenty of major Hollywood film awards happening soon, with the first one being the 19th Hollywood Film Awards to be held today. Some argued that this awards is not getting any attention due to absence of TV broadcasting but we do have to take note that in the last year’s Hollywood Film Awards, some winners went on to collect the Oscar statuettes. It does give some indication there and it marks the start of an official awards campaign for the winners this year too:

From this year’s winner list, I can say that films like ‘The Martian’, ‘The Danish Girl’, ‘Spotlight’, ‘Black Mass’, ‘Bridge of Spies’, ‘The Hateful Eight’, ‘Inside Out’ and ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ are now seen as strong contenders for Oscars so far. Well, there has been some other films not yet released or not foreseen that would still be potential to make it high for the Oscars like ‘The Revenant’, ‘Steve Jobs’, ‘In The Heart Of The Sea’, etc.
As for TVB, there would be this TVB Star Awards Malaysia 2015 to be held end of this month specially for the Malaysian audiences before the final prestigious TVB Anniversary Awards in Hong Kong on December. I do watched quite a lot of TVB dramas this year and some of them are good. I can say that the quality of their series this year has slightly improved. Currently, I’m very engaged to the ‘Lord of Shanghai’, a grand TVB production starring Anthony Wong (film king), Wayne Lai (TV king), Kent Tong, Myolie Wu, Ron Ng, Kenneth Ma, Louis So, Natalie Tong, etc. So far, the series is already been very intense in its first few episodes already. Looking good with great potential for some awards later on as expected which may give other earlier frontrunners like ‘Limelight Years’, ‘Ghost of Relativity’ and ‘Captain of Destiny’ a headache.
For the new blog’s header for this month, I’m using umbrellas’ decoration as the theme. I think some long time ago, I’m fascinated when I first saw images of decoration of floating umbrellas above a street in an oversea country (I think is Portugal). It’s interesting and nice-looking. Malaysia do have this kind of decoration not long ago too at Empire Damansara. That information came from the source of the visual (https://danielc5592.wordpress.com/2013/10/23/floating-umbrellas/) I’m using for my blog’s header. Having umbrellas as the theme for this month seems at the right timing too since Malaysians nowadays have to use umbrella for almost everyday due to the frequent downpour. Umbrella is my saviour now whenever I need to go to train station after work now.
Anyway, for Malaysians, enjoy November 2015 that is expected to come with no more haze hopefully but more rain!
