Movie review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014), and thoughts of the new trailer for Avengers 2: Age of Ultron.

They are four teenagers. They are not ordinary ones as they are mutants. They are ninjas. And weirdly, they are also turtles. So, the right name to call them is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. They don’t exist. If they do (maybe it’s possible looking at how advanced our science and technology has become especially in near future), we have to believe that the world has gone mad. But if they really exists, it’s good for us too as they mean no harm and they are heroes, just like the Avengers (but they are just in animal form).

Okay…I’m actually talking about the film ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’, released this year not long ago. It tells the story of a female reporter whom her curiosity in her job leads to her discovering four ninja turtles. From there on, together they makes an alliance to work against Foot Clan’s plan led by Shredder to threaten and conquer New York City. The film has been receiving generally negative reviews since its release mostly for its unoriginal plot and characters, acting and pacing, but was a box office success, having grossed over 430 million dollars worldwide.

Perhaps, I’m one of the few whom is actually quite satisfied with the way the film turned out to be. There couldn’t be any much more originality from this kind of story as they are based on the ninja turtles comics. The film delivered with quite an engaging plot, and that’s enough. Maybe many people out there is desperate for extreme plot twists that deviates from the original source or something ‘heavy’ to be added into the movie just like ‘The Dark Knight’ film franchise. Not all films need that. Just stick to original material with no alteration. I’m fine with that. Yup…the acting is just average, but the focus of the film is never on the acting. It’s on the actions. And I truly enjoyed every bits of it. The movie didn’t disappoint on delivering substantial exciting action sequences.

Of course I have to admit that this film isn’t great. But it is good enough to the point that I support its future planned sequels. Out of 10 points, I rate the movie a total of 7.0. much higher than what most critics give out there for this science fiction action comedy film. Quite entertaining. It also gives me few good laughs.

Well, on the other hand, also recently, Marvel Cinematic Universe has released the trailer for ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’. The film, sequel to the highly successful 2012’s The Avengers, is slated to be released on May 2015. I guess most of you have already watched the trailer since it is widely shared by almost everyone on the internet. The trailer looks very good and promising. I am particularly impressed with the ending part of the trailer when Ultron, the villain, said ‘There is no strings on me’. Ohh…mind blowing. This is going to be the biggest blockbuster movie next year. I’m very sure of that.

And one more great news for all Marvel’s fans, the production company recently has also announced the slated release dates for 9 Phase Three Marvel Cinematic Universe films from 2016 to 2019. And that includes Avengers 3: Infinity Wars (which will be in 2 parts). Wao…Looking forward to all that. But we have to wait, one by one. Ahh…couldn’t wait any longer, man…!!!
