A total of 19 awards will be presented, excluding the lifetime achievement award which will make it to 20. It is predictable that ‘The Grandmaster’ leads the race with 14 nominations. The film is almost nominated in all the relevant categories. It is not surprising that this film which is also nominated in this year’s Academy Awards (for Best Cinematography and Best Costume Design) will win big on this year’s Hong Kong Film Awards. ‘Unbeatable’ came with second highest number of nominations, with 11.

My best picture prediction would be ‘The Grandmaster’. As for the best actor category, it will be battle between Anthony Wong and Nick Cheung. But I think the latter will win. For best actress, it is almost 100% sure that Zhang Ziyi will win, since she grabbed every best actress trophy from her role in ‘The Grandmaster’ in awards presentation throughout the region. But I still wish for Sammi Cheng to win, since she delivered outstanding performance too in ‘Blind Detective’. She had received a total of 7 nominations in leading actress category but never win any. Pity her but I think her time for the award will come soon. For best supporting actress, I’m supporting Crystal Lee in ‘Unbeatable’ since she is Malaysian. Nothing much to comment on other categories.
