The Rise of the People’s Gathering

Such a cool name when this gathering’s name is translated in English. This was what happened today in the afternoon at the heart of KL; ‘Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat’ or simply known as HKR or KL112. This somehow acts as a successor to the Bersih 3.0 rally last year. But now, it’s no longer a rally anymore which causes much injury and trouble to the participants in previous rallies, thanks to the action by the police on which the government denied. It’s a peaceful gathering after the organizers gained approval to hold the gathering in Stadium Merdeka, which is a very symbolic place to Malaysia. That is the place where our country’s independence is officially declared back in 1957.

The purpose of this gathering? It’s obviously an anti-government event. This gathering was not only attended by thousands of people, but also by opposition leaders and people from NGOs in support of such movement which is aimed to prove the strength and unity of the people up against the government that is so much a failure to the country. Luckily, this time around, there is no casualties or tough actions taken against the participants since the police force learnt their wrongdoings as seen in the past rallies and started to work the otherwise. That’s what harmony is, and what a peaceful gathering by the ‘rakyat’ should be. The gathering is believed to be attended by well over 80 000 people as seen in images (not photoshopped), and I’m sure that the government-controlled media (basically almost all) would says that this gathering received poor attendance. Haha…See this…(it’s clearly not edited). The situation in the stadium just now in the afternoon during the gathering. It’s one of the many images shared throughout the Facebook virally now.

The gathering was very much successful and peaceful as intended. A lot of people were willing to sacrifice their lovely Saturday to turn up for this event. People of all colours attended this and made it part of Malaysia’s history.

But I find it very interesting that such a major event is not even making it into the headline on ‘The Star’ online newspaper. And the most irony part is that the headline of the day was in favour of our current Prime Minister with his government. It is reported that he was on somewhere else, in another small gathering in Selangor on which he had high intention to claim the state back in the next election. As usual, he continued to voice out so many things he can do to the people if we vote for them back, and at the same time, pointing out empty promises and bad things done by opposition. I’m tired of hearing all that bullshits and ‘Satu Malaysia’ thingy which won’t really work under such leadership. Didn’t he realize his own government is worst? No harm to the government. I’m just voicing out my opinion. Freedom of speech, man!

Yesterday, my home received a number of letters from the government, with writing to convince the people particularly in Selangor state (where my home is) to vote for them back in the upcoming general election. And then, there’s a big face of our Prime Minister before the letter ends. Actually, you don’t need to waste all the time to do all these if your government works very well. Thanks for those BR1M, few hundred bucks rebate, and some other ‘sweets’ you given, but what we need seriously is a long-term benefit to the country from a much capable government, unlike yours. Eventhough I didn’t attend the gathering this afternoon, but my heart is with them. The people have rise for change. And I believed Datuk Seri Najib was now in fear of the upcoming 13th general election which is expected to be held in early March the latest. That is why he hasn’t called for the election for such a long time, and rather wait until the five-year term fully ends.
