‘The Avengers’ became the 12th film in history that grossed over 1 billion, and it is just the beginning…
I expected Marvel’s The Avengers movie would breaks box office record, but didn’t see it coming that FAST! It is no doubt that this movie opening right when Hollywood summer season begins would attracts more audiences especially teenagers who are usually in favour of superhero movies, not to mention this one that assembles not one but a group of Marvel’s superhero characters. The film is released earlier in other territories before opening to US. Hence, I got to watch it very early and I’m definitely impressed.
This film had already broke several records; first film in history to gross over 200 million on its opening weekend thus becoming the film with highest opening weekend grossing, fastest film to gross over 200 million and 300 million respectively, and is on track (fast pace) for further records. Yesterday, another milestone is marked when ‘The Avengers’ gained a total of 1.002 billion, becoming the 12th film in history that exceeds 1 billion grossing without adjusting for inflation over time. It is now ranked 11th in the list of highest grossing films of all time, and is predicted to climb to the top 5 sooner before the end of its theatrical run.
I think it would even beats the total amount of grossing of ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2’, the final chapter of the franchise which took a huge amount; 1.328 billion. The Avengers had even took over the concluding film of Harry Potter’s franchise for record in biggest opening weekend already. Absolutely fantastic outcome seen from the box office intake for the film! Very impressive, until to the point that the casts from the film hint for a possible sequel which is later confirmed when the developers of the movie announced for a sequel to that, looking at the success of the first one.
Well, both ‘Avatar’ and ‘Titanic’ directed by James Cameron still top the list with enormous amount of grossing respectively, both exceeding over 2 billion. It appears almost impossible for a change in the top 2 placing, and the target for ‘The Avengers’ now is to at least take that 3rd place which currently taken by ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2’. Well, I can see there is a high chance that ‘The Avengers’ would even gain 1.5 billion in the end, forecasting that in reference to its current great achievement over in theatres and its strong potential. I’m now looking forward to its sequel.
