Exactly 4 years ago, today is the general election day…

Today’s date is 8th March. Four years ago, the date today is simplified to 308, which refers to the general election of Malaysia back in year 2008. Four years ago, today is the day that determines the political fate of the developing nation which continues to be governed by the National Coalition from the nation’s independence in 1957.

Four years ago, we started to see a much more dramatic result from the general election. The opposition finally gained more seats and have incredibly won five out of thirteen states, and also taking power over the country’s capital, Kuala Lumpur. The National Coalition had no choice but to face the truth of losing two-third majority, but still maintaining their power over the federal government. Anyway, it is a satisfying result which shows that many Malaysians are ready for change.

For the upcoming general election which is predicted to be coming soon (must be within five years after the previous general election),  both opposition and the national coalition did ‘a lot’ to gain support for their own parties. Earlier, I thought that our prime minister would officially announce the date of the next general election today, which marks four years passing after the previous election. But there is still no news heard today. So, when would it be held? I think the government has a strong doubt over their performance in the next general election which is the most worrying for them!

Some said it would be on June, before Hari Raya celebration when Muslims would be busy for. It is just a speculation. Our prime minister appears to still have not much confidence, not only in winning back some states, but also in retaining the states they have won  in previous election. Majority of Malaysians now are ready for change, but the government is not ready to dissolve yet. We are still waiting….(if it’s before December, then I cannot vote!)
